Sometimes, while searching for You Made It, I Love It material, I come across an item that makes me go, “no way...that can’t work”. When that happens, I log the item away in a little folder on my desktop until I can try it later. This is one of those posts.
I’ve featured Laura’s site, cometogetherkids.com so many times I should ask her to be a guest writer! Laura always seems to come up with unique ideas that I’ve never seen before and often baffle the mind in their effective simplicity.
Case in point, this DIY chalkboard. This one totally got me. After having spent tons of money on chalkboard paint, learning that I could turn a piece of black construction paper into a perfectly working chalkboard literally turned my world upside down. I have to admit, I was very skeptical when I saw the post. But after having tested it out, I am happy to conclude that this is just about the coolest thing ever! In fact, it’s better than chalkboard paint!
I was so excited about my results that I filmed a video for my YouTube channel about it!
The process is simple - take a piece of black construction paper, coat it in a thick layer of elmer’s glue, let it dry, prime it with a layer of chalk, wipe off, and you are ready to go. It’s truly amazing!
In my video, I mounted mine on foamcore, sealed it with duct tape, and added a pocket for my chalk. I’ll make sure that once the video is up, I link it back to this You Made It.
If you haven’t done so already, I entreat you to head on over to Laura’s site. I promise she will get your creative juices flowing!
