Make Your Own Cardboard Arcade
Make your own Cardboard Arcade|sophie-world.com

Last Summer I, along with many others, discovered this little documentary on YouTube called “Caine’s Arcade”. If you haven’t seen it, you really should take the time to do so.  It’s short, so it won’t eat up too much of your time, unless, like me, you get so inspired you want to make your own.

The best thing about a cardboard arcade is you don’t need much to bring it to life...just some cardboard, some tape (or glue), a pair of scissors, and your imagination.  This is one of those times when you WANT to raid the recycling bin, not head to the craft store.

The making of the cardboard arcade

I run a mini Summer camp every August, and when I showed this idea to my campers they went ca-ray-zee!  They spent the first two hours designing, building, testing and rebuilding.  They spent the next hour developing a pricing structure and advertisement campaign and then the final hours of camp out in the neighborhood drumming up business and running their arcade.

I can’t explain the magic that happens when someone gets an idea and decides to make it a reality.  You just have to experience it for yourself.

Arcade is open and ready for business!

The unexpected thing about this little movie, is that it has inspired so many kids across the country, and the world, to make their own arcades.  When I went back to YouTube to find the original link for the movie, I discovered that there has been a veritable cardboard revolution going on!

So here’s my challenge to you - watch the videos, grab the family, grab the recycle bin, and go to town.  There is no right or wrong here...the videos give you everything you need to start your wheels spinning. From there, the sky is the limit.  This is one of those projects that can continue all Summer long...open it up to your neighborhood, and just watch it grow.  Thanks Caine!
