Step 1:

Decide how long you want your tassel to be.  That is how wide your piece of cardboard should be.  I am using a piece that is 2" x 3 1/2" for a 2" tassel.  Make a small slit at each end of your piece of cardboard approximately one inch from the top.

Step 2:

Place a small piece of crafting thread from one slit to the other and trim.  This will be your tie-off.

Step 3:

Craft thread tends to tangle when used.  I recommend you unspool your craft thread before beginning.

Step 4:

Hold one end of the thread with your thumb and begin wrapping around the cardboard.  I find that 50-60 wraps makes a nice full tassel.  Snip the end when finished.

Step 5:

Release your string from the two cuts and pull it to the top.

Step 6:

Tie the string as tightly as you possibly can.

Step 7:

Pull the ends up and tie them in a small knot.  You will hang your tassel from these strings.

Step 8:

Carefully slide the loop off of your cardboard onto your scissors.  Cut through the the entire loop.

Step 9:

Cut another piece of thread approximately 18" long.  Lay your tassel on this thread about 1/2" from the top.

Step 10:

Tie a knot around the top of the tassel.

Step 11:

Wrap one end of your string around and around until you get to just about the end.

Step 12:

Use the other end to tie it in a knot.

Step 13:

Trim the end of your string. Use your scissors to trim the ends of your tassel so they are even.
