  1. Pair of plain flip flops

  2. Scissors

  3. Hot glue gun (or tacky glue)

  4. Decorations: sequins, flowers, feathers, jewels, beads, ribbon, felt, etc.

Step 1: 

The first way to personalize your flip flops is to gather glue and all the decorative supplies you can muster. Make sure your glue gun is nice and hot! Adult, depending upon the age of the children making the flip-flops, your hands might need to assist with the glue.

Step 2: 

Start gluing! It works best to place the glue on the band of the flip-flop instead of on the decorative item. This way, glue doesn't spill over on the sole of the shoe.

Step 3: 

Another way to decorate them is with felt. Cut up felt strips about an 1 inch wide...

Step 4: 

... And tie them to the thong of the shoes. This creates a nice ruffly look!

Step 6: 

You can also use permanent markers and draw a beach, sunset, or summer theme.

Step 7: 

Here's one that I made, but you can let your imagination run wild!
