Keep your locker neat and tidy with this awesome organizer. With a few recycled materials and duct tape there are endless variations of this great project.
Shoebox lid
Scissors
Corks (for a bulletin board)
Plastic water bottle (for a pencil cup)
Small box (like the kind that soap or individual servings of cereal come in)
Wire clothes hanger (as an alternative to magnets)
Wire cutters (as an alternative to magnets)
Mirrors, ribbon, or other decorative items for your organizer (optional)
First, line the inside of the box lid with duct tape if you like.
Next, cover the sides with more duct tape. Depending on how deep your box's lid is, you should cover about half of the box's rim with tape. Fold your tape down to cover the inside of the rim as well. If your strip goes 'round a corner, take your scissors and make a small snip in the tape at the corner to make folding the tape down easier.
Once your box lid is totally covered in tape, now you can decide what you want to put in your locker organizer! We'll start with a bulletin board. One way to make a corkboard is to simply hot glue your corks into your box lid. You can cover the whole lid, or only part. You can also cover the corks in duct tape before you glue them in if you'd like to add some color!
Another thing you can put inside your locker organizer is a pencil cup or small box. For a cup, all you need to do is cut the top off of a plastic water bottle, leaving the "cup" part. Just like with the corks, you can decorate it by wrapping it in duct tape. Similarly, you can add a small box to hold things like a hairbrush, comb, ruler, or other small things. You can take a small cardboard box, like the kind that soap or single-serving cereals come in, and cover the outside with duct tape.
Attach your cup or box to the inside of your box lid with hot glue.
Once you're done filling the inside of your organizer, it's time to make it hang on the inside of your locker! There are two ways to do this. The first one is to use magnets. You can get sticky-backed magnets from your office supply store. You'll probably want to cover the whole back, in order to support your organizer and everything inside of it!
If you don't have magnets (or if your locker isn't made of metal!), you can create a hanger instead. For this, you'll need a wire clothes hanger. By holding the hanger up to the back of your organizer, estimate how much of the hanger you'll need to cut off.
Using your wire cutters, snip your wire hanger to the correct width. Twist the hook part of the hanger so that the hook faces backwards (or any direction you need in order for your organizer to hang in your locker)
Affix the hanger to the back of the organizer with copious amounts of duct tape!
You're ready to go back to school in style with your own personalized locker organizer.
The options are endless for things to put inside of your organizer. You can glue a mirror (like one from a broken makeup compact) into your organizer, or attach a ribbon that's handy for storing hairclips! A piece of an egg carton is also a great way to create small cups for paper clips or pushpins. Use your imagination, and take a look at some of the examples I've made!
