Step 1:

The center of the flower is essentially the same as my duct tape carnation.  Begin with two pieces of duct tape 6-inches long.

Step 2:

Lay one of the 6 inch pieces sticky side up on your work surface.  Carefully place the second piece on top of the sticky side up piece leaving 1/4"- 1/2" of sticky at the top.  You will have a sticky edge on both sides.

Step 3:

Fold your piece lengthwise so the top edge meets the bottom of the sticky edge on one side. This will create a small tube with a sticky edge.

Step 4:

Square off the ends of your tube and then fringe the duct tape tube.  Your cuts can be as small or as large as you like.

Step 5:

Once you have finished fringing the entire duct tape tube begin wrapping it around the top of your pencil or pen.  Use the exposed sticky to attach it to the pencil.  With each revolution move the tape down slightly.

Step 6:

You have created a duct tape carnation.

Step 7:

Next we will make the petals.  Each flower will have 8 petals.  Begin by cutting 4 pieces of tape approximately five inches in length.  Cut each of those pieces in half lengthwise, leaving you with 8 pieces 5" x 1".

Step 8:

Cut your pipe cleaners into 8 pieces approximately 2 inches long.

Step 9:

Lay your pieces of duct tape sticky side up on your work surface.  Place one piece of pipe cleaner approximately 1 inch from the edge on each piece of tape.  Fold the tape onto itself so it covers the pipe cleaner and leaves about 3/4 of an inch of sticky at the end.

Step 10:

Trim these small pieces of duct tape fabric into the shape of flower petals.  You can also remove any exposed sticky at this time as well.

Step 11:

Begin attaching the flowers to the pencil.  Simply attach the sticky end to the pencil just below the center carnation.

Step 12:

I like to use a north/south/east/west method of placing the petals so as to avoid leaving any holes.  Place your first four petals and then fill in the gaps with your second set of four.

Step 13:

Once you have placed all of your petals you can seal the petals with a small square of green tape placed at the bottom of the petals.

Step 14:

The pipe cleaners inside the petals will give them some structure.  You can now bend and flex them to the appearance you like.
