Step 1:

First, make a base for your diorama by tracing your hot coffee cup lid onto your felt, fabric, or paper. Cut it out with your scissors.

Step 2:

Glue your base into the inside of your hot coffee cup lid.

Step 3:

For our snowglobe scene, we're going to have two penguins fishing on a snowbank! So, we're going to take a cotton ball and stretch it out a bit to make some fluffy snow!

Step 4:

Here, you can see we've glued in bits of our scene: there's the felt base, a bit of metallic paper for water, our penguin figurine (he started out as a finger puppet!), plus we have fish drawn onto paper, our cotton ball snow, beads, and puff balls!

Step 5:

As we glued in our pieces, we cut one of our penguin figurines in half to make it look like he was in the water. You also want to put your clear domed drink lid over your scene from time to time, to check and make sure your figures aren't too tall.

Step 6:

I used a paint marker to write "2012" on my penguin's hat to commemorate this Christmas!

Step 7:

In order to hang your snowglobe, you'll need to attach a ribbon or piece of string or yarn to the clear domed drink lid. Here, we're using beaded trim.

Step 8:

Clear plastic drink lids tend to melt when you put hot glue on them! So, with an adult's help, it's best to apply glue to the ribbon or string, then attach to the lid.

Step 9:

When your interior scene is done, and your hanger is attached to your domed lid, you're ready to put your snowglobe together!

Step 10:

Many drink lids will snap together on their own. But if they don't (or you want some reinforcement), dab a bit of hot glue onto the bottom hot drink lid, then press the lids together.
