Step 1:

With your can opener, remove both the top and the bottom of your tall (at least 12" high) coffee can. Be careful of sharp edges.

Step 2:

If sharp edges remain, you can cover them with duct tape.

Step 3:

Tie a loop of yarn around the can, going through the top, out the bottom, and joining back up with itself. Tie a knot to secure your loop. You'll want to keep your yarn attached to its ball so that you have plenty of length to work with!

Step 4:

Begin looping the yarn over the sides of the can, once again going through the top and out of the bottom.

Step 5:

You'll want to keep your loops close together, with little space in between.

Step 6:

Continue looping your yarn over the can.

Step 7:

Soon, the sides of your coffee can will be covered in yarn!

Step 8:

When you've finally covered the whole can, you can cut the yarn loose from your ball.

Step 9:

Tie your loose end to a looped piece of yarn to secure it.

Step 10:

Trim off any excess yarn.

Step 11:

To insert a card, pull one yarn loop slightly away from the can and slip one side of the card through. The yarn should rest right in the center crease of the card.

Step 12:

Your cards will fan out from your coffee can center like the petals of a flower!
