Sundays at the Ferry Building

If you live in San Francisco, or you are visiting soon, and you've got kids, I've got news for you!

Recently my company was asked to create a weekly, family-friendly, drop-in zone at the iconic Ferry Building on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. That's right!  As part of the Ferry Building's outreach program and in conjunction with their curated Fog City Flea Market we will be presenting a Flea Circus.  Now we won't have real fleas or a circus, but we will be offering up our own brand of homespun fun.

Each Sunday will find our team providing thematic crafts, games, legos, coloring, and some sort of activity such as face painting, tattoos, magic, or juggling.  It's open to the public, and the only caveat is that parents must be present with their children and sign a waiver upon entry.

Our first Sunday was super fun!  The weather was perfect, sunny with a slight breeze, and the City was hopping (there was a DJ spinning tunes, an SF Giants 5K and Half Marathon down the Embarcadero, and an Old Fashioned Cable car exhibit at the Railway Museum).  Families who stumbled upon us were ecstatic!   For many, it was the perfect time filler between breakfast and heading to the ferry to Alcatraz.

Some families commented on how it was the perfect afternoon - lunch at the Ferry Building followed by an afternoon of play.  One dad spent 2 hours with his son just playing with legos!

There were many parent-kid competitions at the basketball station and an amazing array of beautifully adorned faces and arms (provided by the ever-talented Tehra).

For me, this is a wonderful challenge.  I really want to make each week its own experience.  Each week will have a different craft, activity and coloring option.  For our opening week, we chose Toy Story as our theme.  This meant the crafting table was entirely dedicated to making Forky and his friends

Kids and adults alike made the cutest creations; some made entire families, including Knifey!  For us, the smiles and laughter of the parents and children were infectious.  We spent the day hosting visitors and natives alike.  It was one great mush pot of fun!  And just to provide the icing on the cake to the end of my day, as I was walking to the van, a flock of parrots that have evidently relocated from North Beach to the Embarcadero treated me to their own version of the Blue Angels show...I guess I could call them the Green Angels.  In a word...it was a magical way to end a wonderful day.

So if you live in San Francisco or happen to be visiting any time between now and November 17th, make sure you link to our Social Media outlets.  There you'll be able to keep up to date with what activities and crafts we will be hosting from week to week.

The "Flea Circus" runs every Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, now through November 17th.  You can't miss us, we have our own area right to the left of the main staircase.  Bring the family and make a day of it;  take BART into the city, watch the boats in the water and the skateboarders in the plaza, have a treat at the Ferry Building, and then come spend the afternoon with us!  It's the best way I know to turn your Sundays into Fundays!
