Spa Science

I will be the first to admit, I am not what you would call a “girly girl”.  I’m not into manicures, or facials, or spa treatments.  What I am into is science!  I love things that bubble, spark, and brew!  I love things that have texture and smell.  I love mixing ingredients and watching them turn into something new.  Which is why, despite having no interesting in actually using these products, I really enjoy making homemade spa supplies.

When I was a kid, I would spend hours in the tub.  I absolutely loved the water.  So much so that my mom used to call me a “water baby”.  Let me tell you, If I had known how to make bath fizzies during those days, I would have never spent time on dry land!

The best part about spa science, is that for the most part, all of the supplies can be purchased at your local Walgreens or Target.  And, once you’ve purchased the basic supplies, it’s pretty inexpensive to make.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Colored bath salts

These are super easy, and make awesome gifts.  Start saving up your bottles, because layering your colored salts is more fun than sandart.

Bath fizzies

These take a tiny bit of patience and skill, but once you master the mixing technique needed for the wet and dry ingredients you will want to start experimenting with all types of colors and scents.  Again, these make great gifts - and they are so much fun when you place them in water.  Kid’s love them as they turn your tub into a big bubbling cauldron!

Once you’ve got both your bath salts and fizzies made, why not put them all together in a cute gift package.  These bath parfaits couldn’t be cuter.  And again, very cost effective.  I was able to find all my supplies at my local dollar store.  Use your imagination when it comes to items to add for your straw - nail files, lip glosses, hair rollers, toothbrushes, disposable razors….there are countless bath items that will work.  Repurposing items is part of the fun!

I know that summer is typically a time for lemonade stands, but I’m thinking it’s the perfect time to treat yourself to a little tub time chill time.  Maybe it’s time to give that lemonade stand a face lift and turn it into a spa station!   And just remember - with all the emphasis on STEM right now, your little entrepreneur can fine tune their math and science skills and possibly give LUSH a run for their money!
