How to Make Mini Flying Saucers | You Made It! I Love It!

I have to admit to being a total alien freak.  I go cuckoo for anything alien - be it old episodes of The X-Files or the inflatable aliens we use for carnival prizes.  I just love them!

Last December, when I was helping host an Intergalactic Christmas Party, I started looking for inspiration on the internet.  What did I find, but these adorable aliens from Handmade Charlotte.  If that name sounds familiar, it's because I've highlighted Rachel Faucett's site before.  She's responsible for the tasty twizzler cake decor, flashlight constellation, and ice cream charms made out of makeup sponges.

This post is as equally well presented as her previous blogs.  Photos are great, step by steps are easy to follow, and the final product is to die for!  I must admit though, that although I wanted to include these cuties in my aforementioned party, I could not for the life of me find plastic margarita glasses that detached at the base of the bowl.  I searched far and wide on the internet and in local stores, but all I was able to find were glasses with stems.  I ended up creating my own version by using a hot knife to remove the stem. The thought of prepping 300 glasses during our extremely busy party season didn't thrill me, not to mention the toxic reaction between the heat and plasticware.  We ended up resorting to our good old standby, used CD's and slushie cup domes.  They weren't quite as cute, but they served their purpose and since the client wasn't privy to Rachel's post, it was all good.

If you, like me, are looking for some out of this world inspiration, I suggest you fly on over to Handmade Charlotte and take a look at not only this little cutie, but all of her otherworldly creations.  But be warned, there is so much here, you might just get sucked into a vortex of creativity.
