Duct Tape Headband with Bow

You will need:

Plain headband
Duct tape (as many colors as you like)
Scissors
Work surface
Other decor items: ribbon, stickers, jewels, etc. (optional)

Intro:

Duct tape is a crafter's dream come true! This versatile and durable material can be made into all sorts of things -- including adorable, delicate bows! Here, we'll show you how to make beautiful bows that you can attach to headbands, making the cutest hair accessory!

Step 1:

First, let's make the bow! You will begin by making the "duct tape fabric." Rip a piece of duct tape about 7 inches long and lay it on your work surface.

Step 2:

Rip two more additional pieces of the same size and lay them down, slightly overlapping.

Step 3:

Carefully peel the duct tape up, starting from the first piece you laid down (this prevents the strips from separating). Now, flip the entire piece over so the sticky side is facing toward you. Cover the sticky side with additional pieces of duct tape. Be sure to lay them down in the opposite direction as the previous side.

Step 4:

If you like, you can alternate the colors to create a pattern, or use a matching color. In the end, you'll have one piece of "duct tape fabric."

Step 5:

Flip the duct tape fabic back over to expose the original side, and trim away any excess pieces with your scissors. You want to remove all the sticky, exposed pieces, and have a nice, rectangular piece.

Step 6:

Before you move on, you will need to cut or rip a few more pieces of duct tape. These pieces should be very thin and only a couple inches in length. Lay your pieces near you so they are easy to grab.

Step 7:

Now, we can get back to the bow. Begin folding the fabric like a fan to create multiple creases.

Step 8:

Fold back and forth until the entire piece of fabric is folded. You can experiment with big folds and little folds for different effects. You can also try creasing firmly, or folding gently, but keep in mind that sharper creases will make the bow easier to hold together!

Step 9:

Pinch your fanned fabric in the center and you'll see the bow shape form.

Step 10:

Take one of your skinny pieces of duct tape and wrap it around the center of your bow to secure the bow shape.

Step 11:

Ta da! Your bow is complete!

Step 12:

Before we attach the bow, let's decorate the headband. Use the little strips previously ripped and wrap them around the headband. You can place the wrapped pieces an inch or so apart, or right next to each other, it's up to you!

Step 13:

Now, for the bow. Hold the bow on the head band where you want it to be. Use one last piece of skinny duct tape and wrap it around the center of the bow as well as the base of the head band.

Step 14:

Wrap it tightly and you are finished!
