Deli Drum

- 1 skewer
- 8 oz. plastic deli container
- 2 pony beads
- 1 large bead
- 1 large sticker
- Hot glue
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Stickers, paper, glue, puff balls, duct tape, etc. (optional, for decorating)
If your cabinets are overflowing with plastic deli containers, this is the perfect craft! Great for holiday parties, birthday parties, and any kind of music sing along, children can turn those boring old food containers into creative musical piles of fun! All you need is yarn, a skewer, a couple of beads and hot glue. You'll have a drum circle in your house in no time at all!

Cut a piece of yarn about 14 inches long.

Lay the yarn over an open deli container. Place your sticker on top of the center of the yarn and stick it to the bottom of the container.

String one pony bead on one of the yarn ends.

Use the yarn end to tie a double knot on the bead to secure it in place. Repeat on the other side.

Now, let's add the drum holder. Have an adult poke a wooden skewer through the bottom side of the deli container, 90 degrees away from the sides where the yarn is stemming from.

Once the skewer has poked through the plastic edge, put a small amount of hot glue on the tip of the skewer. As always, adults should be the ones to use the glue gun.

Next, slide the large bead on top of the glue. Gluing the bead at the tip of the skewer will cover and protect the sharp tip.

With your bead in place, add some more hot glue on the opposite inside edge of the container.

Push your skewer up as far as it will go, so the bead sticks to the glue on the opposite edge.

Simply put the lid of your deli container back on, leaving the yarn and beads exposed and your deli drum is complete!

Now, when you roll the handle back and forth between your hands, the beads will swing and tap out a beat on your drum!

It's time to decorate! Use beads, duct tape, feathers, hot glue, and all other craft supplies to personalize your drum.

Drums can be decorated for different holidays, like our Chinese New Year drum!
